Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is already upon us, although it feels like it was just yesterday that we were cleaning up after Hurricane Irma. Newscasters are advising that this upcoming season is slightly above-average, with 14 named storms. Seven of those are expected to become hurricanes and three are expected to be major hurricanes. So how are you preparing yourself and family for this Hurricane season? National Hurricane Preparedness Week kicked off last month, with many of our local community partners gearing up with educational materials and preparation checklists. Many South Floridians still don’t take Hurricane season seriously and wait until the last minute to get prepared.

Medi-Station Urgent Care takes Hurricane preparedness very seriously, so much that we actually remain open as long as it’s not life-threatening for our staff and medical providers. We also understand that leaving your shelter under hurricane conditions could be dangerous, therefore we can’t emphasize enough the importance of preparing a well-stocked First Aid Kit and checking off all the items in our list below.

When preparing a First Aid Kit don’t forget to include enough materials for your pets and additional loved ones staying with you. There are so many things to consider when a Hurricane is threatening landfall, from how to protect your home, belongings, loved ones, pets and in some cases evacuation plans, that certain important items could easily slip your mind. Here is a basic checklist to keep in mind when preparing for this hurricane season, click on each item for additional helpful resources:
